Having spent nearly a decade studying Astrophysics and coming away with a PhD, Thomas has moved into Maritime in 2021, bringing with him a wealth of experience in data manipulation and analysis, to answer new and interesting questions. His passion to learn both new skills and domain knowledge, and apply them directly to his work, saw him accelerate to a Senior role, and then onto become a Data Scientist within the two years he has spent with Lloyds List Intelligence. There, he has worked on numerous data lead projects, including the investigation, research, and implementation of an AIS Spoofing detection methodology.

Over the past year, his research into the different nuances of AIS spoofing, AIS jamming and AIS manipulation have cultivated a natural curiosity and investigative approach to spotting vessels that are either avoiding detection or could have been impacted by third party actors.
